Beautiful Simone (Dominique Poulange) an Egyptoligist livening in Paris is excited. She thinks she is pregnant and can’t wait to tell her boyfriend. But something mysterious overtakes her and before she knows it, she is hurling herself out of the apartment window to her sure death. Her friend Stella (Isabelle Adjani) is shocked at her friends unexplainable actions. With a free apartment, it can now be rented out again. Mr. Trelkovsky, (Roman Polanski ) rents the space. He is a quiet, man who earns his living as a file clerk. His life is ordinary. He draws no attention to himself. Yet, the neighbors seem to have a mission to confuse him. They suggest things that make him doubt himself. He begins to wonder if he is losing his mind. When he finds himself dressing up like Simone, is the next step suicide?
