No one stands beyond the reach of the law, not even the Church. Pierre and Emmeline Guitry (Keith Carradine and Blythe Danner) are devoted to the Church - until one day their young son Robbie reveals a devastating secret. He and other children in the community have been molested by the parish priest. When the Guitry family goes to the Church in search of comfort, they are instead offered a financial settlement and no guarantee of justice. The families of the other children are willing to take the settlement, but the Guitrys decide to stand alone for their beliefs. Shut out by the community, they stand alone with only the support of their tireless lawyer, Claude Fortier (jack Warden), as battle lines are drawn in court and both sides await the final Judgment. |
