A small boy in Mexico finds a great friend in his pet bull. When he was younger, Leonardo (Michael Ray) found a cow that had been killed after delivering a male calf. He adopts the orphaned calf, naming him Gitano. Leonardo’s parents, observant of how lonely the boy has been, encourage the bond but fail to mention to him what Gitano’s fate will be. Leonardo grows up with Gitano as a companion, but does not realize that his parents have a responsibility to the bull’s true owner. When Gitano has grown big enough to become a cash commodity, Leonardo’s parents are torn between their son’s love for Gitano and their responsibility to give the animal up to the Patrone. Leonardo is tricked into leaving on an errand, and when he returns, he finds that Gitano has been sold to be used in bullfighting and will eventually be killed. Everyone says it’s too late, but Leonardo still races off to save his friend from certain death.
