Runaway Sgt. Jack R. Ramsay (Tom Selleck) is a cop of the future; his job is to track down robots whose programming has malfunctioned and are on the lamb. Some of these robots even begin to become homicidal, slaying various humans throughout the futuristic city. As Ramsay captures and begins to understand why these robots have malfunctioned, he begins to believe that these robots were indeed programmed to be weapons and not methods of convenience. These suspicions lead him to an evil scientist who is responsible for programming the robots actions. Upon the discovery, Ramsay himself becomes the machines next target and must now escape the city if he is to survive the onslaught.
