Melinda Sordino (Kristen Stewart) is entering a difficult time in her freshman year of high school. She refuse to say a single word since she was raped at the end of a 8th grade party. Melinda became introvert and is judged to be misfit and alienated by her surroundings. She gets ostracized by her schoolmates and alienated from her mother Joyce (Elizabeth Perkins) and father Jack (D. B. Sweeney). In that deep down sorrow, she enters the art class and meets Mr. Freeman the art teacher (Steve Zahn). Melinda gets really interested into arts and puts all of her unspoken emotion to it. Mr. Freeman recognizes her talent and spirit and tries to push her to express herself more through art. With his support, Melinda tries to find the courage to speak, tell the truth and he regain joy in life again.
