Since the last time we saw Number 5, he has undergone a change in name, now he calls himself Johnny 5. He has gone to New York to meet up with Benjamin Jahrvi (Fisher Stevens), who has moved there to try and make his fortune selling toy versions of Johnny. When Sandy Banatoni (Cynthia Gibb) see one of the toys, she thinks it is great and makes an order for 1000 of them as soon as possible. With the help of a small time crook named Fred Ritter (Michael McKean), Ben manages to get the equipment and space to make the toys, but they are foiled by a couple of bank robbers who were hoping to use their office space to rob a bank. Johnny 5 arrives in time to help them make their deadline, and must help them survive attempts by the robbers to further spoil their plans. All of this in time for both Ben and Johnny 5 to make their induction as U. S. citizens.
