All his life Stanley Moon (Dudley Moore) has been unable to make friends. He watches life pass him by while he stands in the wings. He has fallen for a waitress named Margaret (Eleanor Bron) at the Wimpy’s restaurant where the two work. Distraught about his inability to ever form a relationship, Stanley botches his own suicide. The devil (Peter Cook) bargains seven wishes for his soul. Of course, Stanley wants Margaret. But the devil seems to twist the wish while still honoring it. Through 7 adventures, The Devil thwarts all of Stanley’s wishes, leaving us to wonder if he ever hooks up with Margaret. |
