Helen Brent (Claire Trevor) has been wanting her divorce and nothing is going to stop her. She heads to Reno, Nevada to get one. But when it is final and she returns to her boarding house, she finds her neighbor dead and the boyfriend also murdered. She thinks she know who has done this, Sam Wilde (Lawrence Tierney) the other boyfriend. He is a cruel and jealous man. Fearing for her life and anxious to get out of Reno, Helen heads to the train station but she meets Sam there. He is wanting out of town as well. The two fall in love but marry others. Meanwhile, the police are on Sam’s trail. They have almost caught up to him when he and Helen have a confrontation. But will Sam be able to escape the police again?
