When four hometown boys are killed in Iraq, family members come home for the funerals. Bo Price (Toby Keith) and his high school sweetheart, Angela Delton (Kelly Preston), who return for their brothers’ funerals, are among the mourners. Price, a down and out country singer, and recovering alcoholic discovers that he and Angela had a daughter together, and he meets 16-year-old Dixie Lee (Lindsey Haun) for the first time. Angela wants nothing to do with him at first, because he ran away and left her alone and pregnant. Dixie Lee wants to get to know him, but their beginning efforts fail to connect. Dixie Lee gets involved with a local boy, a bad situation in which Bo intervenes. They start talking and getting to know each other. As they do, they realize that they have things in common. Dixie Lee writes country songs and sings and plays a guitar just like her dad. The three start warming to each other. When Bo invites Dixie Lee to sing at a local show he’s sponsoring with Willie Nelson’s assistance to help the families of soldiers who die in combat, she proves to be a talented entertainer.
