Headmaster Wakefield (Ted Ray) of the Maudlin Street Secondary Modern School has been in charge for 20 years at the school. Seeing an opportunity for a headmaster position nearer to his hometown, though, he becomes determined to move there. In order to successfully receive the post, though, he must look good for Felicity Wheeler (Rosalind Knight), the Ministry of Education Inspector, who is coming to the Maudlin School along with child psychologist Alistair Grigg (Leslie Phillips). When some of the students get wind of his leaving they decide to sabotage the inspection since they like him so much. The headmaster tries to use science instructor Adams (Kenneth Connor), for whom Miss Wheeler has fond feelings, as a salve for the chaos. |
