The Driver (James Taylor) and The Mechanic (Dennis Wilson) are a pair of itinerant car junkies travelling across the United States in a 1955 Chevrolet that they have modified into a hot rod. Going along with them is The Girl (Laurie Bird), who tags for the amusement of it. When they meet the driver of an equally souped-up Pontiac GTO (Warren Oates), they challenge him to a race across the country to Washington D. C., with the pink slips of the vehicles hanging in the balance. |
