Based on the beloved graphic novel by comics artist Daniel Clowes (Art School Confidential, Eightball), this movie tells the story of two recent high school graduates, outcasts Enid (Thora Birch) and Rebecca (Scarlett Johansson). While trying to find meaning and stay true to themselves in a world that has no place for nonconformists, they blunder their way into a mean-spirited prank on another outcast, older record collector Seymour (Steve Buscemi). Enid has to pass a remedial art class to officially graduate high school, and she and Rebecca both must endure menial jobs. Enid recognizes something of herself in Seymour, and the two become close, even as Enid and Rebecca drift further apart.
