Adapted from the Oscar Wilde play “Lady Windermere’s Fan”, a notorious woman who preys on other women’s husbands, Mrs. Erlynne (Helen Hunt), chooses as her next conquest Robert Windermere (Mark Umbers) a newlywed in Venice with his young and very proper wife Meg (Scarlett Johannsson). Mrs. Erlynne is on the run from the disrupted couples she has left behind in New York City and sees the young and well-to-do couple as the perfect source for much needed funds as well as her usual seduction. Meanwhile, a wealthy but no longer young swain, Tuppy (Tom Wilkinson), is smitten with Mrs. Erlynne and sets out to win her. But he has competition from the younger Lord Darlington (Stephen Campbell Moore) for her affections. Not everyone’s motives are quite what they seem and the game is afoot.
