In this psychological thriller, the main character Dr. Lila Colette (Gina Gershon) is a psychiatrist who treats insane criminals in prisons. After an ugly divorce, Paul Coletti (Nick Boraine), his former spouse, a very rich man, wins the custody of their two children, Rebecca and Sarah. Then, one day, Paul and his new girlfriend end being violated and killed brutally. Lila becomes the main suspect in the investigation conducted by the detective Macy Kobacek (Michael Biehn), the man with who she had a relationship. The woman is convinced that the murder was committed by Ed Baikman (Sean Patrick Flanery), an obsessive patient of hers who was moved from prison into an asylum.
