After he was diagnosed with cancer in terminal phase and the doctors give him 10% chance of surviving, the young English teacher, Ben Tyler (Joshua Jackson), prefers to buy an old bike and start a trip through Canada rather than to begin medical treatment of which efficacy he is not convinced. His girlfriend, Samantha Pierce (Liane Balaban) considers this trip recklessly and refuses to accompany him. This is an opportunity for Ben to analyze with a critical eye their relationship and love and to find out what is missing in their relation. Unsatisfied by his work that does not give him any satisfaction, the relationship with Samantha and the fact that he has completed a manuscript which nobody wants to publish, Ben Tyler tries to put his thoughts in order and find a sense deeply his life during this journey from Toronto to Tofino.
