In My Country (2004) depicts a romance between Langston Whitfield (Samuel L. Jackson) and Anna Malan (Juliet Binoche). Ana is a white South African woman, and Langston is an African-American. Langston is a journalist who arrives to South Africa and meets Anna, who is a poet and a reporter. The two of them cover the reconciliation hearings in various parts of South Africa. On these hearings, victims of human rights abuse during apartheid regime confronted the perpetrators in court, with both sides seeking not revenge, but truth and forgiveness. In the course of his work, Langston also interviews one of the perpetrators of the apartheid atrocities, De Jager (Brendan Gleeson). Anna believes in the effectiveness of the hearings, while Langston is doubtful. When they first meet, it is obvious that they dislike each other. However, they come to understand each other, and fall in love.
