Mark Deloach (Jonathan Tucker) is an American soldier returning home after serving very admirably in the Marines. As he readjusts to the small town life, he meets a beautiful young girl named, Dori Lawrence (Rachael Leigh Cook). Dori is a promising and aspiring young musical talent who also suffers from a severe case of schizophrenia. Her condition worsens as their relationship progresses, causing a bittersweet romance for Mark. Their friendship hits a crossroads as Mark must report back to his unit, now Dori is left to fend for herself on a very unforgiving world. She also faces the possibility that without Mark by her side, she may be institutionalized by the state.
