Zac Hobson (Bruno Lawrence) works on Project Flashlight, an energy grid which lets war planes fly without refueling. Something goes horribly wrong with this, and Zac wakes up one morning as apparently the lone survivor of a malfunction which has changed the whole universe. Zac feels that he is losing it for a while and even talks to his audience, which is just a bunch of cardboard standees representing people like Bob Marley, Hitler, Alfred Hitchcock, and Queen Elizabeth. He is about to do himself in when he finds out that there are other survivors after all: Joanne (Alison Routledge) and Api (Pete Smith). The two men are at odds with each other over the woman. And the malfunction may not be over yet.
