Vanessa Lutz (Reese Witherspoon) is a deeply troubled, yet infinitely optimistic teen. Her bubbly, blond visage betrays her sordid home-life, which is plagued by drug abuse and molestation. In an effort to evade protective services, Vanessa sets off for Grandma’s house, packing a pistol in lieu of a picnic basket. En route, the veritable red riding hood crosses paths with a big bad wolf, child psychologist and serial killer Bob Wulverton (Kiefer Sutherland). With Freeway, first-time director Matthew Bright spins a classic fairytale into a deliciously dark satire of sensationalized sex crimes. Sadistically funny and repulsively engaging, this film wrench the laughs and vomit right of viewers, no stomach will be left unturned.
