My Name is Khan is the story of a Muslim boy Rizwan (Shah Rukh Khan) who grows up in Mumbai with his mother and brother Zakir. Though Rizwan is endowed with a special skill to repair almost anything, he suffers from the Aspergers Syndrome. After their mother’s death, Zakir sponsors Rizwan’s stay at San Francisco, with Rizwan working for him. Rizwan falls in love with a Hindu hairdresser Mandira (Kajol), who has a child Sam from her previous marriage, and marries her. Their happy life is however shattered post 9/11, with Sam being killed in a racially motivated fight amongst schoolmates and Mandira blaming Rizwan for the incident. With Mandira’s prodding Rizwan sets on a journey to convince people that all ‘Khans’ aren’t terrorists. Once, while shouting out "My name is Khan and I am not a terrorist," on his way to meet President Bush, Rizwan gets arrested. After his release he goes to Wilhemina to help hurricane victims, inspiring many more Muslims to join in.
