Emily Jenkins (Renee Zellweger) is a social worker working on family matters. She finds a ten year old girl Lilith Sullivan (Jodelle Ferland) whose parents Margaret (Kerry O'Malley) and Edward Sullivan (Callum Keith Rennie) try killing her. Emily saves the girl and decides to keep her safe with herself till she finds proper foster parents for the girl. However, she soon finds that the girl is troubled and much more dangerous than Emily first thought. When she approaches Margaret and Edward to find a solution, they tell her that the only way to stop Lilith is by killing her as she is not really as innocent as she looks.
