The Boyds are a family of African Americans, and the Ramirez family are Mexican American, but the two sides must come together for a marriage of Lucia Ramirez (America Ferrera) and Marcus Ramirez (Lance Gross). In Los Angeles when the two families gather to meet, fireworks ensue. Lucia’s father Miguel Ramirez (Carlos Mencia) immediately strikes a rivalry with Marcus’s father Brad Boyd (Forest Whitaker), a radio personality with a penchant for sleeping around. Since Brad is a single parent who raised his son, most of the family members in attendance are overwhelmingly those of Lucia. Brad does have an old, loyal female friend named Angela (Regina King) who helped him raise his son, and on whom he relies. But, the two fathers-in-law are fairly likely to sabotage the entire event, much to the consternation of the bride and groom.
