Swimming Upstream” us the true story of a young Australian man from an extremely dysfunctional family. Tony Fingleton (Jesse Spencer) is the object of his father’s violence and alcoholic ravings until one day the father (Geoffrey Rush) sees Tony swimming at the local pool and instantly thinks Tony can be his meal ticket. Tony does have the support and love of his mother, Dora (Judy Davis), but his increasing success as a swimmer does not bring the approval of his father he so desperately seeks. Despite this, Tony does find the strength to go to the Australian Finals and become a champion.
