When Walter (Elvis Presley) returns from his army tour of duty, he visits the town he was born in, hoping to find a job. Drafted to work as a sparring partner and part-time singer for Willy Grogan (Gig Young) at his Gaelic Garden club. Willy’s girlfriend (Lola Albright) sees Walter’s potential. With trainer Lew (Charles Bronson), Walter has potential as a fighter more than as a singer. Walter must help his friend Willy escape mob gambling debts and decides to help him, especially since Willy’s young sister (Joan Blackman) becomes a focus of his amorous attentions. Walter discovers his boxing prowess soon enough to dispatch Otto (David Lewis) and his mob hitmen from the happy valley where they all live.
