Dr. John Carpenter (Elvis Presley) is a handsome doctor in an inner city clinic who has his world shaken by three nuns working outside their church. Sister Michelle Gallagher (Mary Tyler Moore), Sister Irene Hawkins (Barbara McNair) and Sister Barbara Bennett (Jane Elliot) are taken aback by life outside their protected environment. As time progresses, they begin to wonder if perhaps there is life outside the habits.
