Rudy (Leelee Sobieski) and Rhett Baker (Trevor Morgan) are living normal childhoods until their parents are killed in a car accident. They are sent to live with some rich friends of their parents, the Glasses (Stellan Skarsgard and Diane Lane), in Malibu. Rudy and Rhett are still grieving over the loss of their parents but begin to adjust to their new life together with the Glasses. Everything is going fine until Rudy discovers that their parents have left a $4 million inheritance. She starts to notice the strange behavior of the Glasses towards her and her brother. Driven by greed, the Glasses will stop at nothing to get a hold of the children's money, even if that means getting rid of Rudy and Rhett for good.
