"The Girl in the Cafe" is set in England leading up to the G8 Summit in Reykjavik, Iceland. An introverted and unassuming government official (Bill Nighy) Lawrence, meets an unusual young woman, (Kelly MacDonald) Gina, in a cafe. Without knowing much about her, Lawrence asks Gina to accompany him to the world meeting. The all important conference, designed to detail the contributions of many nations on the topic of world poverty, sets the stage for side stepping responsibility and dodging humanitarian culpability. Amid the bureaucratic power struggles, we learn what makes Gina the strange combination of soft spoken activist and empathetic companion. Lawrence also discovers what lengths the world ,and one person, will go to ease the suffering of another human being.
