Faith (Marisa Tomei) is a single woman who is a believer in soul mates. She thinks that two soul mates can be united if they find each other. She consults an Ouija board and learns that her missing half will be a man named Damon Bradley. Confirming this, a fortune teller sees the name Damon Bradley in a crystal ball and tells Faith this. Fourteen years later, Faith is engaged and plans to marry until she gets a call from one of the classmates of her fiancé. The man is named Damon Bradley (Robert Downey, Jr.), and is on his way to Venice. Rushing to the airport to see her soul mate, she misses him and the plane, but decides, then and there, to go after him. So Faith and her sister-in-law Kate (Bonnie Hunt) both board the next plane for Italy hoping to find Damon Bradley.
