Bohemian painter Georgia O’Keeffe (Joan Allen) is at odds with society, but moves to New York to try her hand at life as an artist. Once there, she meets a photographer named Alfred Stieglitz (Jeremy Irons), who gives her succor. Yet, Georgia seems restless in the big city. Though married, Stieglitz has an affair with Georgia. They run off together to New Mexico where the environs are more suitable to both their burgeoning careers, but Alfred has an eye for women and once again cheats on his wife. O’Keeffe finds solace in painting the New Mexican atmosphere, which brings her fame. Indeed, after a while, she falls more in love with the Taos desert than with her husband.
