Phil Weston (Will Ferrell) is a father of a ten year old boy who accepts the coach's whistle for his son's soccer team, with former Bears coach Mike Ditka (Mike Ditka) as his assistant. His own father, Buck Weston (Robert Duvall), also has a ten year old child, and is the coach of the team that are the favorites to win the league. Remembering the 'win at any cost' competitive streak drilled into him as a child, Phil tries desperately to prove himself to his father by coaching the kids on his team to win at the expense of all else. Phil sees this not as an opportunity to teach kids about teamwork and sportsmanship, but to finally be part of a winning team himself. |
