Mateo Blanco (Lluis Homar) lives a somewhat split life. As a film director, he goes by the name Mateo Blanco. As a writer, he goes by the pen name Harry Caine. After a tragic car crash fourteen years ago, he lost his sight along with the love of his life, Lena (Penelope Cruz). Since the crash, he has only gone by the name Harry Caine - his former self, including directing films, died in that crash, in his opinion - he has self induced amnesia of anything related to his old self, Mateo Blanco. Hew now lives thanks to help from his former production manager Judit Garcia (Blaca Portillo) and her son Diego (Tamar Novas). Diego has an accident while Judit is out of the country, and Harry helps him. Early in his recovery, Diego asks Harry about his former life and the time when he was Mateo Blanco. Harry tells Diego about everything that happened fourteen years ago: a story of fatality, jealousy, abuse of power, treachery, and guilt.
