Diverse people in the confines of New York City's various neighborhoods find love in a myriad of circumstances and with an emphasis on differences. For instance, an older woman named Isabelle (Julie Christie) finds love with Jacob (Shia LaBeouf), a young Russian émigré. An elderly couple, Abe (Eli Wallach) and Mitzie (Cloris Leachman) reminisce about why they stayed together in the big city. A music composer named David (Orlando Bloom) and his girlfriend Camille (Christina Ricci) come to some epiphanies while on the phone discussing his work. A randy writer (Ethan Hawke) tries to pick up a call girl (Maggie Q) without paying, and other sundry encounters add up to a city that never sleeps and has endless variations on encounters with love.
