Michael Peterson (Tom Hardy) tries to step up and make a name for himself by robbing a post office at the ripe age of 19. He is then sentenced to 7 years in jail and eventually ends up serving 34 years in jail due to the violent acts and psychotic behavior he expresses in his jail sentence.
