Toni Whitney’s (Tina Majorino) family adopts Andre a baby seal and nurses him back to health. The seal is released back into the wild but somehow makes the 400-mile trip back to they Whitneys’. Andre grows up and becomes more and more mischievious and the town’s fishermen become upset over Andre’s antics. One of the fishermen, Mark Baker (Joshua Jackson) is already upset because Toni’s father Harry Whitney (Keith Carradine) was appointed to the position of harbormaster instead of him. The media attention that Andre’s unusual antics attract further takes the spotlight off Mark, who becomes angrier as the attention increases for Andre. How will Mark possibly compete with a loveable seal like Andre?
