Ten-year-old Sunny Matthews (Kelsey Mulrooney) is emotionally and physically broken. A horrific car accident took her loving father's life and also left her disabled. With a damaged spirit and a deep sadness within her, it is only a horse named Ginger that has been through his own share of hard times that can reach her. As the two bond, they discover a talent for barrel racing competitions, which slowly draws them both back into the real world.
