Austrian composer Johann Strauss's (Fernand Gravey) devoted wife (Luise Rainer) is devastated when she realizes her husband is having an affair with a gorgeous opera singer (Miliza Korjus, in an Oscar-nominated performance). But husband and wife work out their problems shortly before being introduced at the court of Emperor Franz Josef. This lavish musical drama was nominated for a Best Editing Oscar and won the Oscar for Best Cinematography. |
