The movie is based on a true story. During the early 80's, a white policeman called Andres Stander (Thomas Jane) starts to rob banks all over South Africa after taking part in the vicious killing in a riot while on duty. He does it after suffering a crisis of conscience for being involved in the killing, and being accused for apartheid. He wants to defy the same system that he was in, and robs banks during his lunch break. He comes back to the crime scene to lead the investigation. He gets caught by the police and sent to prison. There he meets Allan Heyl (David O'Hara) and Lee McCall (Dexter Fletcher). They break out of jail and form the Stander Gang, robbing banks again.
