Based on a true life story, Will Stoneman (Mackenzie Astin) is living a happy life of a farmer with his mother Maggie (Penelope Windust) and father Jack.(John Terry) While coming home from a shopping trip into town, Jack falls into some thin ice and dies. Will is left alone to try and save the family farm. He decides to enter a dog sled race in order to get enough money to save the farm. With the help of an Indian handyman Ned Dodd (August Schellenberg), he trains for the race. But will finds out that just entering the race is half the battle. He has to fight the Swedish champion Borg Guillarson (George Gerdes) and the wealthy Angus McTeague,(Brian Cox) who are against Will at every turn. Can Will find the courage to fight both the natural and human obstacles and win the race?
