The setting of the movie is in hollywood. the story is about Eddie (Sean Penn) and his extravagant partner Mickey. Eddie (Kevin Spacey). Eddie is a director involved in all sorts of things rich people do i. e. smoke, drink and involve in affairs with women. they along with friends wander about their objective of life but this too deep thought results in no good result. Eddie loves Darlene( Wright Penn), but this love too is fickle minded as see toois not serious and is seeing Mickey. Artie gifts Eddie and Mickey a beautiful living package this is none but a hitchhiker Donna (Anna Paquin). They keep flirting and enjoying Donna's company but with time a self realization come to them. But it is late many relations break due to such incidents and their life according to them was fine but their relationships deteriorated in all spheres. Their life continues as before , they gift Phil a dancer Bonnie(Meg Ryan) and as usual she was much abused as the case stood always and the rest of the gang deteriorated as time passed.
