A PBS modernized adaptation of the classic story by Lewis Carroll of a girl who falls “through the looking glass” into a strange world. Directed by Kirk Browning and starring (Eve Arden) as the Queen of Hearts, (Austin Pendleton) as the White Rabbit, (Richard Burton) as the White Knight, and his daughter, (Kate Burton) as Alice, this version is almost word for word straight from the books, including the costumes and sets based on John Tenniel’s illustrations. Unlike the Disney versions that mixed the two books together, this movie tells “Alice in Wonderland” back to back with “Through the Looking Glass.” |
