Six people living very different lives find a common ground at the karaoke machine. Ricky Dean (Huey Lewis) travels from town to town, hustling the karaoke circuit. On a detour to attend a funeral for an old friend, he meets his long-lost daughter Liv (Gwyneth Paltrow). She decides to join him, traveling the road. Todd Woods (Paul Giamatti) is a stressed out salesman whose job is annoying and whose family is ignorant. He discovers karaoke and performs a duet with his new friend, Reggie Kane (Andre Braugher), a convict on the run. Billy (Scott Speedman) is a cab driver who picks up Suzi Loomis (Maria Bello), in a rush on her way to California. Even though their lives are crazed in different ways, each person is connected to another through their karaoke hobby, and each is headed to a national karaoke competition in Omaha.
