The story of composer Cole Porter that covers the years from about 1912 to 1946 begins with Porter at Yale University where he particiapted in theatre and was tutored by Monty Wolley (plays himself), a professor at the school. Despite his wealth, Porter signs up as an ambulance driver during World War II. He meets a nurse, Linda Lee (Alexis Smith) while in France and eventually marries her. After the war Porter focuses on The London stage and Broadway Shows. He writes numerous hit songs during this time.
