Darby O'Gill (Albert Sharpe) is the caretaker of an estate where he lives with his daughter Katie (Janet Munro). He is better known for his stories of leprechauns than his ability to manage the estate. So when Michael McBride (Sean Connery) is hired to replace Darby to manage the estate, Darby sets out to capture the king of the leprechauns, King Brian (Jimmy O’Dea) in order to steal his pot of gold and secure a future for his daughter and himself. While Darby is out trying to capture King Brian, Michael is trying to capture the heart of Katie. Darby does capture the leprechaun, after all, but no one believes him. Desperate to resolve the situation, King Brian bargains with him that if Darby will let him go, he will grant him three wishes. But Darby is no match for King Brian's wits.
