Mollie (Kirstie Alley) is having an affair with her married client, Albert (George Segal). She gets pregnant. She and Albert fight. She grabs a cab driven by a man named James Ubriacco (John Travolta). Mollie goes into labor in the cab, and James rushes her to a hospital where she has her son, Mikey (Bruce Willis). She tells Mikey she’s going to find him a great father. James stops by Mollie’s apartment to return her wallet which she’d left in his cab. They don’t see each other for awhile. Then Mollie discovers that James is using her address in order to keep his grandfather in a nursing home in her part of town. James agrees to baby-sit in exchange for her silence. He and Mikey bond. Mollie continues to date but can’t find a man good enough for her son. Albert shows up asking to see his son, but Mollie learns he’s just as big a jerk as always. James tells her he loves her and Mikey. While dealing with a situation with James’ grandfather, Mikey goes missing. James finds Mikey, and Mollie realizes that James will be the perfect husband and father.
