Anne Hilton (Claudette Colbert) is the wife of a businessman who volunteers to serve his country as an officer during WWII. Fighting back her own fears and anxieties, Anne strives to maintain a normal, stable household for the sake of her growing daughters Jane (Jennifer Jones) and Bridget (Shirley Temple). She is offered moral support by sardonic-but-kindly tenant Colonel Smollett (Monty Woolley), by maid Fidelia (Hattie McDaniel) and by Navy man and friend-of-the-family Lieutenant Tony Willett (Joseph Cotten). |
